Efficient Conversion Technology™ (ECT™)

Optimizes Cellulose Conversion – Cost Effective Cellulosic Liquid Fuels Ethanol

Performance Plants has an innovative Efficient Conversion Technology™ (ECT™) program focused on providing industrial clients with a customized feedstock ideally suited to their specifications. PPI’s competitive advantage is our ability to tailor-make optimum feedstock solutions from a variety of non-food crop species. Engineers will no longer have to sacrifice process efficiency switching to a renewable feedstock.

The initial suite of ECT™ products resolves the second half of the biofuels dilemma – making the plant’s tough cell walls more easily converted to biofuel. Extracting cellulosic energy is currently quite energy intensive making celluloisc ethanol less cost-effective than fossil fuels or grain ethanol on a dollar for energy basis.

Studies with model plants have shown that certain ECT™ lines are almost twice as efficient in releasing fermentable sugars from biomass, showing potential to significantly reduce the cost of producing cellulosic biofuels. The Company recently received a $5.6 million grant from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to accelerate development of this technology into non-food biomass crops.
